The Ventures – Wipeout / The Surfaris – Surfer Joe

The Ventures – Wipeout   This will get the blood going.  Have you heard of instrumental band The Ventures?  Maybe not, but you have very likely heard them, especially if you are older.  People make such a big deal about surf guitar, but I like the use of drums, although this particular song is unusual. … Read more

Pulp Fiction

“In fact, what the fuck am I doing in the back? You the motherfucker should be on brain detail!”   Pulp Fiction was released back in 1994, when I had my nose buried deep in schoolbooks. For the longest time I had little or no idea what the movie was like or about. … Read more

Red Tails trailer

Red Tails trailer   I’m really looking forward to seeing this film, in the theatre, even though I don’t get excited about films any more.  This is a George Lucas-produced project that he’s had on the agenda as far back as 1988.  As I pointed out in the Star Wars Begins post, the campaigns … Read more

some recent movie articles

20 Hot Movies in 2012 This includes Prometheus, helpfully described as “Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel that’s not an Alien prequel but is totally an Alien prequel.”   The Underappreciated Genius of Stan Winston A short article about special effects dude Stan Winston, who has worked on a number of those big movies, … Read more

Christmas in the last few years

“I wrapped all these.”    I get obsessive about Christmas, with the focus almost entirely on the presents. It hits my buttons. I think that other people perceive the giving of presents as a social ritual that helps to create a bond between people. I perceive presents as little fun bombs meant to entertain … Read more

What’s New Pussycat

I watched the film What’s New Pussycat, featuring the famous Tom Jones song and heavyweight talent. I didn’t really like the film. But I did like bits and pieces of it, starting with the score from musical powerhouse Burt Bacharach. I watched it over and over, and each time I watched it I … Read more

Can’t Stop

Can’t Stop Designed by game god Sid Sackson. Doesn’t this seem like a game you could play with anyone? There’s also the boardless Can’t Stop the Turtles (sticking their neck out?).

Cannonball Run

I don’t know how well known this is, but the Mythbusters team blasted a cannon, and the cannonball zipped into the city of Dublin, California.  Nobody got hurt, but the cannonball went on quite the adventure. Here is a link to a description of the event.  Here is a map portraying where the cannonball … Read more

Indie Game: a dorkumentary

It’s Movie Monday! Indie Game is a film made by Winnipegers that will be showing at the Sundance Film Festival.  The trailer is nice.  It shows the work, the passions and the egos of game developers as they design, build and release their creation. I wonder what that would be like?

Blue Circles – update

The Blue Circles app for the iPhone has been made. I’ll have to fix it for when you tip the device, there’s the matter of the instructions – not looking forward to that – there will be testing and its repercussions, and one or two other things. But all the game funtionality … Read more

Marcie Blaine – Bobby’s Girl

Marcie Blaine – Bobby’s Girl I’ve had this song playing in my head for days now. Now you’re going to hear it. It’s a sixties girly tune. I don’t like the chorus, but the rest of it is nice, including the guitar sound.

Lest We Forget

Lest we forget     what it was we were supposed to remember.     The CBC site has (among other articles) an audio clip about the battle in the crazy environment of Paschendaele during WWI.  2/3 into the audio clip there is a cute story about Tommie Holmes VC.  The dominion of Canada made some remarkable … Read more
